Urcilla McCaul Plumley

DENVER -- Ms. Plumley, formerly of Denver, NC passed away on August 6, 2011. She is survived by her daughters Gay Hill and husband Dan of Clemmons, NC; Kim Richardson and husband Bob of Denver, NC; and four grandchildren Bryn Talbott and husband Bryan of Charlotte; Jason Hill and wife Jennie of Huntersville; Bryan Richardson of Denver and Justin Richardson of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Urcilla McCaul, formerly of Belfast Ireland and her two older brothers, Dennis and Ronald McCaul. Born in Toronto, Canada on March 17, 1923, Lucy served in the Canadian Navy (WRENs) in WWII, where she was stationed in Gourock Scotland. After the war, Lucy returned to Canada with her husband, the late Freddie Plumley, had their daughters, and then immigrated to the US in 1954, settling in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She became a citizen of the United States in 1970. She, along with her daughters, developed a love of travel. In 1970, the three spontaneously traveled around the world, visiting exotic destinations and creating wonderful memories. In 1974, Lucy moved to Denver, NC and began a successful and long career in real estate. She could be seen any day walking the boundaries of property lines to find the perfect place to build a spec home or showing property to clients and newcomers to the Lake Norman area. She introduced her daughters and her grandchildren to new adventures at every turn. Whether she was teaching them to swim, water ski, sail, sew, enjoy the beauty of the NC mountains, travel to different countries or watch tennis; she approached every day and experience with a positive outlook. She was her grandchildren 1/8s loudest cheerleader and often took them on individual trips to foreign lands or one of her favorite places, Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, NC. Not one to sit around and let life pass her by, at the age of 80, Lucy spent time in France at a French cooking school learning about techniques and wine. She loved reading books, entertaining company, telling stories about her life's adventures and being with her family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. After cremation, a private memorial celebration will be held by the family. Lucy will make a final trip with her daughters to Ireland to her final resting place. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Clare Bridge of Winston-Salem, NC, for their tender loving care given to Lucy during her stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 225 Davie Ave., Statesville, NC 28677, who provided great care and comfort for her while she was a resident at Clare Bridge, of Winston-Salem, NC. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
