Trung Thai Nguyen, age 82 of Greensboro and Winston Salem NC, peacefully passed away at home early Sunday morning June 11, 2023 with family by his side.
Trung was born in Vietnam on August 28,1940, the Son of Nguyen Van Chuan and Dang Thi Hue, both now deceased. He grew up on Saigon City, Vietnam, graduating from high school in 1960, and then earning his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of South Vietnam in 1964. Trung married his first and only love, Hoang Lan Ngo, on November 28,1966. Their marriage held strong for nearly 57 years. Together Trung and Lan had four beautiful children 3 Daughters Oanh, Ha, & Yen. One Son Tung.
While still in Vietnam, Trung as an employee of Saigon Vietnam Power Company and, through series of promotions to assistant director and director, working his way up to the position of Chief of Power Electric distribution of the Mỹ Tho, Tay Ninh Pleiku Province, and then Chief of Power Distribution for the South Side of Saigon City. During this time, Trung earned another degree, this one a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Institut Technique Professionet France 1977. Trung continued to work for the Vietnam Power Company until 1985.
Trung rejoined his family in the States to open a new chapter of their life. The family was sponsored in their new home by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC, which both offered tremendous assistance and support. Trung and Lan worked hard to raise their Four children. Shortly after the family reunion, they opened Lan’s Textile and Tailor shop, later changed to Lan’s Alterations, in the Parkway Plaza shopping center. Trung helped by managing the shop, but his primary job was to see to the education of his children, tutoring them until they obtained their own advanced degrees in Dentistry.
In order to keep his professional credentials current, Trung earned yet another Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, this one in 1989 from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. In the same year he graduated from NC A&T, Trung was baptized by Pastor Samuel James the same pastor who baptized his wife Lan in 1963 in Vietnam. While Trung’s main focus remained his family and children’s educations, he maintained membership in Winston Salem Engineering Club beginning in 1991. Trung also took great pleasure in volunteering at the food bank for many years with his special girl Oanh and driving his wife around until 2020.
Trung loved his family and left behind his Wife of 57 years, Hoang Lan Ngo Nguyen of the home , Daughter Hoang Oanh Thai Nguyen of the home, Daughter Dr. Ha Nguyen Silva (Dr. Enrico Silva) of Greensboro, Son Dr. Tung Nguyen ( Dr. Hue Lieu) of Greensboro, and Daughter Dr. Yen Nguyen (Brian Elliott) of Clemmons, and Grandchildren Erin Silva, Emily Silva, Ethan Silva, Emerson Nguyen, Andrew Nguyen , Caroline Nguyen, Sophia Nguyen, Keira Elliott, Lela Elliott, and Nico Elliott.
A service celebrating Trung’s life will be held 12pm Friday June 30, 2023, at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston Salem where he was a member, with Rev. Christa Warise and Pastor Nam Pham officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston Salem from 6pm until 8pm Thursday, June 29, 2023.
