Tony Wright Drane

Mr. Tony Wright Drane, 65, of Winston-Salem, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at his home. Tony was born in Forsyth County, NC on July 17, 1950, to the late Glenn Robert Drane and Fannie Irene Blakely Drane. Tony retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he was a welder. In retirement, he remained a skilled craftsman, with a love for his newfound free time, much of which was spent outdoors or on the go with his wife, Donna. Selfless and fiercely loyal with an incredible ability to fix the unfixable, he leaves behind an army of family and friends who will forever remember him for his giving nature, big smile, quick wit, and of course, all of the things he fixed. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by two brothers, Donny and Mike Drane; and his father-in-law, Warren ""Chub"" Thomas. He is survived by his wife of thirty five years, Donna Thomas Drane; two daughters, Katie Drane Lambeth and husband, Tyler, and Misti Drane; three grandchildren, Elijah, Keshaun and Sahara; two brothers, Bobby Drane and Terry Drane; four sisters, Becky Watkins and husband, Richard, Sandra Yarboro, Glenda Hall and husband, Roger, and Debbie Jones and husband, Don; mother-in-law, Lucille Thomas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kent and Dawn Grubbs and Jim and Debbie Barber; two half-sisters and three half-brothers; and many nieces, nephews and other loving extended family members. A memorial in celebration of Tony's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Quality Education Academy, 5012 Lansing Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
