WHITMAN - RURAL HALL
Mr. Tommy Gray Whitman, 78, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County on September 23, 1936 to the late Jessie Lee Pardue Whitman and Ralph Gray Whitman. Mr. Whitman was a member of Rural Hall Moravian Church. He proudly served eight years in the United States Navy Reserve. Mr. Whitman worked for Roadway and Pilot Freight as a Driver Supervisor, Whitman Motors, and Tupperware Distributorship, but his most rewarding job was the eleven years he spent at Forsyth Medical Center as a Parking Valet. He was an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitman was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and David Whitman. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shelvia Reeves Whitman of the home; one daughter, Christine Whitman Coble of Greensboro; two sons, Clinton Guy Whitman (Kelly) of Rural Hall and Kyle Gray Whitman (Carey) of Dallas, GA; four granddaughters: Jessie Spangler (Brad), Katelyn Coble, Amy Whitman, and Marissa Coble; two grandsons, Jackson and Jeremy Whitman; one great-grandson, Aiden Spangler; one brother, Johnny Whitman (Adelene) of King; one sister, Janet Andrews (Eddy) of Winston-Salem; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and special friends and neighbors, Clyde and Carolyn Dahmer.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19 at Rural Hall Moravian Church with Rev. Aaron Linville and Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Rural Hall Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 18 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
