Tommy Edward Brewer

It is with profound sorrow and the deepest of sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Tommy Edward Brewer who fought a long, hard, and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Tommy departed this world peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024, at home surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Tommy was born on January 18, 1947, to Elmo Leroy and Frances Weaver Brewer in Winston-Salem, NC, and was the second-born of four children.

Tommy graduated from James A. Gray High School in June of 1965, and served for 2 years during the Vietnam War in the Army in the 531st Military Intelligence Company at Camp King in Germany. He also served at Fort Meade in Maryland and at Fort Lee in Virginia. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist E5 in 1968. Upon leaving the Army, Tommy worked briefly at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company before joining Westinghouse in Rural Hall in 1970 and was one of the first one hundred people hired. He retired in 2005 as a Production Planning Supervisor.

Tommy met his wife Linda of 53 years in the spring of 1969. They were married in January of 1971, in Winston-Salem, NC and had their only daughter Pamela in 1976.

Tommy was a loving, attentive, and caring husband and father who sometimes sacrificed his passion for classic cars in order to ensure his family was well taken care of and well provided for. He thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with his car buddies, showing his cars, and going to swap meets. He won many trophies over the years for his immaculately kept show cars. Tommy especially loved Chevelles, Camaros and Corvettes, and up until the illness took over, would still watch car shows on TV and discuss car auctions and other things car-related to anyone he could.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Brother Larry; nephew, Randy; and niece, Christy. He is survived by his spouse, Linda Brewer; daughter, Pamela Brewer; one brother, Harold (Lucy), and one sister, Susan (Tim); sister-in-law, Judy; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC, on Monday, February 12, 2024, with the visitation at 1:00 pm, and memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm. Urn burial will take place at a later date, TBD.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local Alzheimer’s Association Chapter to help further research and aid in finding a cure for this terrible disease. The family would like to give a special shout-out to Tommy’s Home-Healthcare Hospice Team from Amedisys and thank them for the excellent loving care and concern they showed and provided to him over this last year.
