Mr. Tom George Vlahos, of Winston-Salem fell asleep in the Lord, Thursday, April 9, 2015 after months of battling lung cancer. Tom Vlahos was born on February 9, 1944 in Mouzilo, Evrytania Greece. He came to the United States when he was 22 years old where he became an American citizen. He married in 1975 and is survived by his children Stasy (Chris) Skarlatos, Penny (Joshua) Thomas, George Vlahos and four grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Chris Vlahos, two sisters, Rickie Angelo Kortesis and Anna Giannopoulos, one sister-in-law, Voula Vlahos and one brother-in-law, Tom Giannopoulos. He was introduced into the restaurant business and spent the next 46 years cooking in restaurants in Winston-Salem. He would be described as a people person who made every stranger a friend with his good humor and quick wit. He always had a ready smile and a joke on his tongue, no matter how dark the day. In spite of starting with nothing, he devoted his life to his family to give them everything he could. We will miss his bright smile and helping hand. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 pm Monday at the church with a Trisagion service at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers any memorial contributions may be given to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
