Timmy 'Tim' Jackson Evans, Sr.

God directed an angel to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home to transport Tim Evans from earth to Heaven on Tuesday morning, September 20, 2011. He went peacefully because he knew ""to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."" Left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 40 years, Ann Taylor Evans; two sons, Timmy Jackson, Jr., and Jeremy Bryan; a daughter, Angie Evans Hatcher and husband Shane Hatcher, all of Winston-Salem; a brother, Jimmy Wayne Evans and wife Barbara of King; a sister, Darlene Vanhoy and husband Johnnie Vanhoy of Mocksville; a half sister, Patty Kilby of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Nicholas Evans of the home, Alyssa and Noah Hatcher, Jeremiah, Kadence and Krisalyn Evans; several nieces and nephews; a special Mother and Father-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. James Taylor, Sr. of Walkertown, as well as many other wonderful in-laws. He will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Eulis Jackson Evans and Thyra Ellen Evans; a brother, Ricky Evans; a sister, Cheryl Evans and a half sister, Judy Jones. Tim graduated from West High School. He served the country he loved during the Vietnam War, receiving an Army Commendation medal for exemplary meritorious service, contributing significantly to the success of the allied effort. Tim accepted Christ as his Savior several years ago. He was self-employed, utilizing his above average carpentry and technical skills, and for several years he was employed by the Winston-Salem Journal in the distribution area. He was hired by many people to build, repair and remodel, under-charging on most jobs, always acting impartially and in their best interest. He joined Hanes Baptist Church in March of 1997, where he served on the Board of Deacons, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and in Maintenance, working on practically everything around the Church. Tim was characterized by his humility, his unconditional love, his devotion to his family and to God. He willingly bore his cross (many times through adverse circumstances), with honor and patience and without murmuring or complaining. II Timothy, Chapter 4, Verse 7 fits him perfectly- ""I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."" Special thanks are offered for Tim's excellent care by Forsyth Medical Center, 9th Floor Oncology, and the staff at Hospice, as well as for the many acts of kindness from Family and Friends. A service honoring Tim's life will be held at Hanes Baptist Church, 4210 Sabrina Lake Rd., Winston-Salem on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Ron Groce, Rev. Jason Holley, and the Rev. Jon White. Following the service, interment will be at Westlawn Gardens of Memory at Clemmons. Visitation privileges are offered at the Church on Thursday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Always in our hearts, Tim, ""Until the day break, and the shadows flee away."" (Solomon's Song 4:6). Memorials may be made to Hanes Baptist Church, Building Fund, 4210 Sabrina Lake Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
