Thurman Alton Stewart Jr.

Thurman Alton Stewart, Jr. 66, of Tobaccoville, was born January 9, 1946 to Thurman Alton Stewart, Sr. and Elizabeth Freeman Stewart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. During his time in the service he worked as a signalman and received several medals and honors. Mr. Stewart retired as Sgt. with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department in 1994. His father and his son William Dustin Stewart preceded him in death. Surviving is his mother of Clemmons; brother, Robert C. Stewart (Anne) of Clemmons; daughter, Karen L. Stewart of Lewisville; former wife, Janet Stewart Daniel of the home; grandchildren, Margaret Callicutt (Adam) of Lexington, Brandon Stewart of Charlotte, and Madison Snider of Lewisville. The family will receive friends Friday November 16, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway with honor guard provided by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department. Services will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 with the Rev. Chris Byrne officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Tobaccoville, with military rites conducted by the Clemmons VFW Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, N.C. 27103. Mr. Stewart's daughter would like to send a special ""thank you"" to her mother, Janet, daughters, Margaret and Madison, and nephew, Brandon for all the help and support they have given over the last three years with her father. An additional thank you to Barbara, Kelly, Gentiva team, Palliative care of Forsyth County and Hospice of both Forsyth and Stokes County. I couldn't have survived it without all of you.
