KERNERSVILLE-Thurman Justice Brown, 93, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Autumn Care of Mocksville. He was born September 28, 1915 in Forsyth Co. to the late Elmer Justice and Daisy Florence Farrington Brown. Thurman was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the 179th Field Artillery Battalion of the Third Army. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, they landed at Utah Beach and, under General George S. Patton, fought their way across Europe-France, Belgium, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Austria. He earned three bronze stars during his military service. Thurman worked for 21 years at a hosiery mill and retired from P. Lorillard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Marshall Brown; a son, Thurman Lyndon Brown; and a sister, Dorothy Stewart. Surviving are his daughter, Susan McDaniel and husband George D. of Winston Salem; two grandchildren, Angela Mork and husband Phil of Charlotte, and Scott McDaniel of Lexington; five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Savannah, and Ryan McDaniel of Lexington, Alex and Lauren Mork of Charlotte. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery with full military rites, and the Rev. Sam White officiating.
