Mr. Thomas “Tom” Kidd Bernard, Sr., 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Tom was born in Forsyth County on February 6, 1934, to the late Charles Hughes Bernard and Louise Kidd Bernard. Tom served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Tom was a professional photographer and photofinisher by trade, later opening his own business. He loved music, especially the drums, and was a member of the Senior Adult Choir and Orchestra at Ardmore Baptist Church, where he was a life-long member. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Sheets Bernard and siblings, Charles H. Bernard, Jr., William O. Bernard, Samuel G. Bernard, Garland L. Bernard, Dorothy Johnson, and Martha Bernard. Tom is survived by his daughter, Debra Ann Johnson (Tim); son, Thomas Kidd Bernard, Jr. (Davina); grandchildren, Samuel Paul Johnson (Brooke) and Benjamin Luke Johnson; great-grandson, Bramley Christopher Johnson; and sister, Betty B. Poe. A private service will be held for Mr. Bernard at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Ty Talton officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
