Tom Dustrude’s remarkable journey began on May 12th, 1936, in Winnebago, IL. Born to Charlotte and Ralph Olmstead and Theron Dustrude, he is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dean, Merle, Bob, and Billy. Surviving him are his devoted wife, Donna Dustrude, daughter Wendy Greenleaf and her husband Earl, along with cherished grandchildren—Brittany Tucker and her husband Josh, Samantha Dix, Cory Dix, Jacob Greenleaf, Landon Greenleaf, two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Lola Tucker, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a man of wisdom who treasured education, instilling the same value in his grandchildren and anyone willing to listen. A proud Harlem Husky, he graduated from Harlem High School in Loves Park, IL, in 1954, actively participating in sports and extracurricular activities. Tom earned a degree in Mathematics from Beloit College and obtained his masters in Business Administration from Indiana University. His commitment to learning continued well into his 60’s, completing courses at Forsyth Technical Community College with exceptional academic success. A master of humor, Tom brought levity to every situation, maintaining his wit until the very end. Throughout his life, he embraced various roles— a Navy serviceman, a farmer, gardener, cowboy, Chicago city slicker, IBM analyst, Sara Lee analyst and programmer, realtor, political junkie, and sports enthusiast. Above all, he was a devoted family man. As a teenager, Tom attended a Youth For Christ rally in Chicago, IL, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He faithfully served, attended, and supported Kerwin Baptist Church for 36 years. Tom crossed the finish line on Wednesday, December 6th, peacefully at home surrounded by family. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, December 10th, at 2:30 PM at Kerwin Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC. A sincere thanks to Trellis Hospice Care for their genuine compassion and supportive care.
