Thomas 'Wayne' Thompson

Mr. Thomas ""Wayne"" Thompson, 71, died April 3, 2013 at W.G. ""Bill"" Hefner VA Medical Center, Liberty Lane Hospice House in Salisbury, NC after a period of declining health. Wayne was the only child of the late Thomas Ray ""Tommy"" Thompson and Lois Parker Thompson of Clayton, GA. He was born September 2, 1941. Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Frances Norton Thompson, on November 16, 1963. He is survived by his wife and daughters, Christie Snyder (John) of Winston-Salem and Laura Hughes (Ricky) of Tobaccoville. He is also survived by his only grandchildren, Patrick and Audrey Hughes and a number of family members in the Clayton, GA area. Wayne served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War in 1967. Upon his discharge from the Army, he worked for Duke Power at Buck Steam Station in Spencer, NC. He then transferred to Belews Creek Steam Station in Madison, NC in 1973 and is a charter member of the initial start-up crew. Wayne worked there until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and the Watchmen Sunday School Class, taught by Jimmy Crawford. Wayne loved his church and Sunday School Class very much! Funeral services for Wayne will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall with Pastor Tim Gammons and Mr. Jimmy Crawford officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; Woodland Baptist Church Building Fund, 1175 Bethania-Rural Hall Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all the caregivers at the VA Liberty Lane Hospice House for the exceptional and loving care they gave Wayne during his time there. You all made a very difficult time much easier. Also, to his former roommate, Mr. Osborne, for helping take care of and looking out for Wayne during his stay in CLC-building 42.
