Thomas Dale Pugh, 70, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on December 26, 2011 after a prolonged illness. Mr. Pugh was born October 2, 1941 in Alleghany County, NC to the late Guy Wilson and Ruby Faircloth Pugh. Mr. Pugh was a graduate of Piney Creek High School and spent his early years employed by the Winston-Salem Fire Department as a fireman, fire instructor and dispatcher. He spent the next 35 years until his retirement as the owner of Alarm Security Service in Winston-Salem serving his clients and the industry with tireless devotion. Mr. Pugh was a dedicated volunteer and was instrumental in the development of the American Red Cross Disaster Service Program receiving the Clara Barton Award for his service as a volunteer. He was a member of Robinhood Road Baptist Church and enjoyed the many friendships formed since he found his church home. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pugh was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Mary Osborne Pugh and a brother, Sherman Guy Pugh. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Brenda, of the home; two daughters, Glenda Pugh Dirienzo and husband Charles and Valerie Alanna Pugh, both of Winston-Salem. He leaves two grandchildren, Katelyn Mary Whicker, who was his loving caregiver in his last days, and Alexander Thomas Whicker, who spent many hours with ""Poppy"" keeping him company and helping out when his strength failed. Mr. Pugh also leaves a stepdaughter, Meredith Smith and husband Brock; and a step granddaughter, Isabella. Mr. Pugh is survived by three brothers, Dean Pugh and wife Shirley of Walkertown, Robert Pugh of East Bend, and Nicky Pugh of Laurel Springs; three sisters, Jackie Mabe and husband Clarence of Greensboro, Christene Martin and husband Randy of Rural Hall, and Ann Triplett and husband Kenneth of Sparta; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Thursday, December 29, from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Robinhood Road Baptist Church on Friday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Hackworth officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family would like to thank the many people of Hospice, particularly his personal angel, Monica McMillan.
