Mr. Thomas A. (Tommy) Phelps Jr., of Lewisville went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. He was born January 8, 1938 in Davie County. Tommy retired from Pilot Freight Carriers Inc. and after retiring he worked part time at Joe's Landscaping. He was a volunteer fireman at South Fork and Lewisville Fire Departments. He also had a passion for antique tractors, NASCAR, and was a big Duke basketball fan. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas (Jack) Phelps Sr.; his mother, Vivian Sidden Phelps Sloan; and two sisters, Ruby Phelps and Roberta Moore. Surviving him and will always cherish his memory and the 49 years of marriage is his wife, Shirley Burton Phelps; his three children, Phyllis (Steve) Hundley, Tommy (Michelle) Phelps, and Donna (Scott) Spurlock; six granddaughters who will honor and love the memory of their Paw Paw, Ashley Weaver, Jessica Hundley, Candy Holland, Rachel Phelps, Lauren Phelps, and Bethany Spurlock; one great grandson, Jeremiah Weaver; and one great granddaughter to be born in December; and long time friend that Tommy thought of like a brother, Mr. Charlie Holder; and many other relatives, friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Ray Waddell and the Rev. Paul Sink officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
