Kernersville - Mr. Thomas S. Means, 87 passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010. He was born July 9, 1922 in Cook County, Illinois to Thomas Stewart and Hazel Nolan Means. Mr. Means served during WWII with Company L 386 Infantry Regiment 97th I.D. He graduated from Lawrence Michigan High School, class of 1940, a graduate of the University of Kentucky with an Engineering degree, he retired from Western Electric, he was a Telephone Pioneer and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of VFW in Elpaso, TX, a Master Mason of the 32nd degree Scotish Rite, and a member of the Disabled Veterans of America. He was preceded in death by his loving wife; Ida Deatherage Means and his sister; Helen Kolmetz. Surviving are; three sons, Timothy S. Means and wife Linda of Oak Ridge, Dennis P. Means and wife Mary, and Thomas S. Means and wife Barbara all of Ohio and many special grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, May 10, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
