Thomas William Kirk, Jr.

Thomas William Kirk, Jr., 82, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017 at his home. Tom was born on May 1, 1935 in Norfolk, CT to Thomas William Kirk, Sr. and Eva Gladys Avery Kirk. He graduated from Darien High School in Darien, CT. After graduating, he was drafted and served in the United States Army. After the service, he went on to work for Capitol Records and Merrill Lynch in Connecticut. He eventually moved to North Carolina where he worked for Salem Distributing, retiring from the company 11 years ago with over 20 years of employment. Tom was a devout member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. Tom had a great love for animals, especially his dog Dixie. He also had a passion for cars, specifically vintage and classic cars. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Gloria Vernon. Surviving family includes: his nieces, Karen ""Cookie"" Gibson (Stephen) and Kelly Vernon; nephew, Kirk Vernon (Jodie); great-nieces and nephews, Randy and Meredith Patton, Michael Patton (Jennifer), and Jamie Vernon; several great-great-nieces and nephews; and Tom's adopted family, Sven and Maggie Laudien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11 am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, with Father Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial park Cemetery with military honors.
