Mr. Thomas ""Tommy"" George Karathanas III, 23, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born in West Hills, CA on June 16, 1989 to Thomas George and Janis Karathanas. Tommy graduated from Ronald Reagan High School in the first graduating class. He then attended Johnson and Wales University where he studied Culinary Arts. Tommy became an accomplished chef at Mozelle's, where he was voted Best Chef of Winston-Salem. He fulfilled his dream, becoming a chef of the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group. Tommy is survived by his parents of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Jennifer Karathanas and Christina Karathanas; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Interment will be held in California. Visitation will be held from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, with a Trisagion service being held at 7:30 pm, Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Triad Community Kitchen, a program of the Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC, 3655 Reed Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
