Thomas Holland

KERNERSVILLE – Thomas Reith Holland, 81, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at his home. Tom was born on May 9, 1940, in Forsyth County to James Ray and Lucille Houston Holland. He was a long time member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church and the Manuel Sunday School Class, where he was involved in many facets of ministry. Tom retired from RJ Reynolds after 34 years of service and began a second career with Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, devoting over 25 years as a Funeral Director. Tom was a member of Glory Street Quartet, sharing his love for singing with many.

Tom loved his family and had a compassion for others that extended well beyond his family. He was more than willing to help with any need and spared no energy to let you know that he cared. If you knew him, you were blessed by his friendship.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Holland and Steve Holland; a nephew, Brian Holland, and a great granddaughter, Hannah Weir.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, whom he adored, Susie Holland; a daughter, Angie Saylor (Brian), three grandchildren, Zachary Weir (Jennifer), Sarah Phillips (Jeff), Joshua Saylor, three great grandchildren, Emily and Evelyn Weir, and Zeb Phillips, two sisters, Dot Sides and Mary Motsinger (Larry), and many special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Ellis Rouse and Rev. Brian Matherlee officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 PM following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Rd.
