Thomas Alton Dickens

               Thomas Alton Dickens was born on May 26, 1930, in Nash County, NC, to the late Joseph Irving Dickens and Mary George Fisher Dickens. After a short illness, Tom passed into eternal rest on November 6, 2024, at age 94. He was a jovial man and always had a funny story to share. Tom was considered a graduate of NC State University, having completed the 1-yr Agronomy course in his early adulthood. He served honorably in the US Army Reserve for 13 years, beginning in 1951, and achieved the rank of E-6, Staff Sergeant, in the 906th Field Artillery Battalion. Tom was involved in sales nearly all of his life. He sold plumbing and heating supplies for 25 years and then he decided to learn the life insurance and securities sales business. Tom was still very active in business at the time of his death. His most enjoyable pastime during his adult life was flying his beloved Cessna 182. Tom was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC from 1976 until his death. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn of 48 years, and their blended family, including 6 children, Tom Dickens, (Jane), Steve Dickens (Barbara), John Dickens, Anne Wicker (David), Lauren Crump, John Eichler, Jr, (Carolyn), together with their children and grandchildren and one brother, Fred Dickens (Jeannie).

               The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance, NC. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday by Senior Pastor Will Toburen, of Calvary Baptist Church.
