Thomas Rutledge Comer, Jr. passed peacefully from his residence at Oak Forest Health and Rehab to his heavenly home on Friday, September 12, 2014. Thomas was born on November 27, 1930 to Ellen Easter Comer and Thomas Rutledge Comer, Sr. in Carroll County, VA. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a dedicated employee of Western Electric Company, where he worked until his retirement. Thomas was preceded in death by an infant sibling; as well as 2 sisters, Juanita Kaplan of Fort Worth, TX, and Josephine Thomas of Lewisville; and a brother, W.M. Comer. He is survived by 2 sons, Tommy Lee Comer (Debra) of Rural Hall, and Robert Joe Comer (Cathy) of Tobaccoville; 2 daughters, Kathryn C. McKittrick (Mike) of Tobaccoville, and Sharon C. Wingate (Dennis) of Ridgeway, VA.; 3 stepchildren, Susan Sanders, Joe Sanders, and Sharon Spears; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Louisa Tally of Richmond, VA, Virginia Motsinger of Winston-Salem, and Opal Walker of King. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Parklawn Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Michael Sanders officiating.
