BELEWS CREEK - Thomas Lee Barber, 64, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. What was one of the family's worst days, was his best day, as he saw his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Tom was born on April 15, 1950 in Surry County to the late Brady and Theresa Barber. Tom served his country in the Vietnam War, serving 2 tours of duty in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. He was a successful business owner and a wonderful giver to the community through his heart for feeding the homeless and helping the less fortunate. The Winston-Salem Journal did an article about him buying a truck so he could pick up day old bread at the bread stores and take it to needy ministries. They called him ""The Bread Man!""
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his step daughter, Nickole Marie Butcher; two brothers, Ricky Garland Barber and Brady Robert Barber; and a nephew, Casey Baron Barber.
Surviving are his wife, Bronna Barber of the home; a daughter, Connie Barber of Winston-Salem; a sister, Sandra Strupe (husband, Robert) of Welcome; two brothers, Bobby Barber (wife, Lottie) of Kernersville and William Barber (wife, Colleen) of Statesville; many nieces, great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Curtis Woods of Vintage Bible College officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or Vintage Bible College, 4964 University Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
