Mrs. Thelma “Sue” Waddell Stutts, 89, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022. She was born April 16, 1933, in Wilkes County to the late Ivy Waddell and Lillie Johnston Waddell. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sue was a charter member of Hopewell Moravian Church. Sue moved to Winston-Salem to begin her career at RJ Reynolds and later retired from there after 34 years of service. During her time at RJ Reynolds, she met her loving husband, Jack Lloyd Stutts. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, preparing home cooked meals and surf fishing with Jack at Carolina Beach. Sue and Jack had passed on many traits to their son, Terry Lee. In 2015, Sue moved to Cadence Assisted Living in Clemmons, NC, which she served as an ambassador to residents, making many friends, and creating many memories. She enjoyed listening to Elvis and even had him attend her 88th Birthday. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Jack Lloyd Stutts, four siblings, Alton Waddell, Edna Anderson, Albert “Bud” Waddell, and Shirley Tilley. Sue is survived by her son, Terry Lee Stutts (Melissa); grandchildren, Whitney Hyman (Mike), Lauren Hylarides (Donavan), and Erika Boruff (Tyler); one great-grandson, Owen Hylarides; sister Emma Jolene Salmons, and several nieces and nephews. Terry Lee and the rest of the family would like to thank Cadence Assisted Living for their thoughts, prayers, care, and friendship over the years. A private graveside service was conducted 2:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2022, at Hopewell Moravian Church graveyard with Pastor Greg Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell Moravian Church, 701 Hopewell Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27127, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103.
