Mrs. Thelma Hamm Burgess (Watts), 82, passed away Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Iredell Co. on August 6, 1928 to the late Lee Roan Hamm and Etta Head Hamm. Thelma was a member of Union Tabernacle Church and retired from Troutman Industries in Walnut Cove. Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She had a great love for her church, her pastor, children and her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Heggie Bishop Burgess, her son, Curtis Houston Burgess, a grandson, Adam William Culler, two sisters and two brothers. Thelma is survived by her nine children, Judy (Lee) Gordy, Jimmy (Kathy) Burgess, Linda (Eddie) Culler, Debbie (Roger) Tuttle, Betty (Sonny) Mabe, Donna Burgess, Paula (Russ) Stop, Cindy (Clarence) Mabe and Barbara Bobbie Jo Burgess, 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers and several special Big Oak friends. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at Union Tabernacle Church in Winston-Salem with Pastor Herb Mabe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening April 7, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
