In Loving Memory of Thelma Shatley Miller:
Thelma, a beacon of light in the lives of many, peacefully passed away on February 17, 2024 at the age of 79. Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Born on February 10, 1945 to Garfield and Pauline Shatley. She grew up in West Jefferson, NC and lived in Winston Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Lyall and Patsy Shatley.
As a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, daughter, and friend, Thelma was a source of unconditional love and support to her family. Her love knew no bounds, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the well-being and happiness of her loved ones.
Thelma will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years, James “Jimmy” Miller, daughters Dawn Patrick (Jon) and Marilyn Kudro (Dennis), 6 grandchildren (Holli Draper, Cody Pritchett, Hailey Vogt, Tyler Pritchett, Liz Kudro, and Austin Kudro), and 6 great grandchildren (Ike & Jimmy Draper, Jack & Hayes Vogt, Clayton Pritchett, and Sadie Kudro), sisters, Naomia Gore, Helen Bare, Judy Joines (Charlie) and brother Mike Shatley and many extended family and friends.
Thelma was known for her kindness, compassion, and selflessness. She touched countless lives throughout her life with her generosity and gentle spirit, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of crossing her path. She perfected her famous cubed steak, potato salad, and coconut cream pie recipes and enjoyed sharing the comfort of southern cooking with family and friends. She loved playing softball, watching sports, fellowshipping at church, traveling and any chance to spend time with her family.
A celebration of Thelma’s life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home (Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, NC) where family and friends will come together to honor her memory and share stories of the beautiful life she lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the church where Thelma and Jimmy were active members. Checks can be mailed in her memory to: White Road Baptist Church, PO Box 160, Belews Creek, NC 27009.
Though Thelma may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all. Forever in our hearts, Thelma will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. May her soul find comfort and serenity in the arms of angels, and may her legacy of love endure for generations to come.
