Mrs. Thelma "Toots" Smith Tuttle Kennedy, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018. She was born July 6, 1927 to the late Wiley A. and Lizzie Sofley Smith. After graduating from Griffith High School, she worked at Hanes Knitting Mill for 31 years followed by a second career as a clerk-typist in Voc-Rehab at Veterans Administration for 9 years. In her retirement, she volunteered many hours with Forsyth Hospital. She was a charter member of Faith Church in Midway and most recently attended Konnoak Baptist Church. Thelma was preceded in death by her husbands, Hoy Tuttle and Troy Kennedy, as well as brothers: W.A., Reynolds, and Tom Smith, sisters: Sarah Mendenhall, Joan Fine, and Lola Kirby. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Tuttle Hensley (Johnny); three grandchildren, Amanda Crady (Zachariah), Steven Hensley (Jennifer) and Julie Ball (Bradlee); three great-grandchildren, Michael Ballew, Hannah and Luke Hensley; two sisters, Nancy Kiser and Sylvia Snyder and sister-in-law Peggy Smith, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. John Bishop officiating. Interment will follow the service at Faith Church Cemetery in Midway. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at the funeral home.
