HICKS - Winston-Salem Mrs. Thelma Tuttle Smith Hicks, 88, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 at her home. She was born January 24, 1921 in Forsyth County to the late Joseph Golden Tuttle and Flora Madie Creason Tuttle. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her first husband, Cleve Smith; two brothers, Junior and Buddy Tuttle; two sisters, Alma and Gertrude Tuttle; two step-brothers, Harvey and Edgar Tuttle; also one step-sister, Beulah Wishon. Surviving Mrs. Hicks are her husband, Foard Hicks; two children, Bill Smith (Kaye) of Dobson and Peggy Cross of Sanford; step-children, Dwight Hicks (Becky), Kathy Kerley and Jan Curling; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jesse Tuttle; also several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jim Thompson and the Rev. Gene Sherrill officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M this evening, May 29 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers from hospice: LuAnn, Gloria, Tawana, Jeannette and Laura; and also to her special friend, Kimberly and nephew, Andy.
