Thelma Edwards Butner

Mrs. Thelma Ada Edwards Butner, 99, passed away November 7, 2014 at Southfork Assisted Living. She was born January 2, 1915 in Columbus County, NC to the late James Melvin Edwards and Ada Bullard Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Butner and her daughter, Gwendolyn ""Wendy"" O'Neal and nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Butner is survived by her son, Ricky Butner (Sonya); five grandchildren, Shawn O'Neal (Shannon), Natasha O'Neal Gerber (Gene), Joseph O'Neal, Brandon Butner (Jaime), and Ryan Butner; seven great-grandchildren, Seth, Skyler, Shane, Saige, Paisley, Maddox, and Lane. Mrs. Butner was a member of Grace Baptist Temple and was a devoted Christian. She retired as a nursing assistant at Baptist Hospital. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A funeral service will be held at 9:00am, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Temple, 3505 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
