Belews Creek - T.G. Preston, Jr., 90, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 to his new home ""not made with hands eternal in the heavens"". He was born in Forsyth Co. to the late Thomas Graydon Preston, Sr. and Mary Neal Preston. Mr. Preston was a lifelong member of Goodwill Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Air Corp veteran having served in WWII. T.G. spent his entire life farming the land where he was born and raised in Belews Creek. Mr. Preston was co-owner and operator of Preston Brothers Lumber Co. in Belews Creek. He was instrumental in organizing the Belews Creek Volunteer Fire Dept where he was actively involved as a volunteer fireman from 1963 until 1985, serving as first president and spent many years on the board of directors. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Linville Preston; three brothers, Page, J.C., and Burbank Preston; and one sister, Frances Moser. Surviving are his two daughters, Carolyn Dodson and husband, Michael, Linda Whicker and husband, Denis; two granddaughters, Jennifer Dodson and Melissa Mitchell and husband, Jay; one great-granddaughter, Edith Joyce Mitchell; one sister, Catherine Kiser, and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Goodwill Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Mullis officiating. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Friday, July 22, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103 The family would like to thank the Hospice staff and nurses as well as the special caregivers who spent time with him during his final months at home.
