Kernersville - Mr. Ted Irving Smith, 77, died Saturday, October 3, 2009. He was born on June 3, 1932 in Forsyth County, to the late William Irving and Stella Motsinger Smith. Ted retired from Southern Bell and was a member of Sedge Garden Methodist Church. In addition to his love of animals, he was a former outdoorsman and horseman. Ted was a loving husband, father and a great friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Smith Masten and brother Phillip Joe Smith. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Sapp Smith, of the home; two sons, Ricky Smith (wife, Patsy) of Kernersville and Robbie Smith (wife, Betty) of Lewisville; the sons' mother, Ivey S. Smith; one sister, Vanda S. Viehman, a brother-in-law, Fredrick David Masten of Kernersville; and four grandchildren, Ronda, Regina, Austin and Jordan. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with the Dr. Rob Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
