KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Sylvia Marie Stephenson Martin, 75, left this world Monday, September 23, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Sylvia was born in Raleigh, NC on July 29, 1938 to the late Charles Edward and Doris Rigsber Stephenson. She resided in Wilmington, NC until she moved with her family to Greensboro in 1956. She enjoyed her family and friends, God's nature, reading, bridge, traveling with friends, music, fishing, the mountains and the sea shore. She met and married Charles Harold Martin in 1957 who preceded her in death in 2011. Surviving are her beloved daughter; Mary Elizabeth and husband, William S. Weathers and beloved grandson; Marty of Alpharetta, GA, her beloved son, Philip G. Martin of Kernersville, a brother, Donnie M. Gray and wife Janice; and a niece, Donna Johnson of Statesville. Also surviving are her cousins, Mimi Benedict of Calabash and Rachel Poe of Jamestown, and lifelong friend, Shelby Hamlin of Raleigh, who were as sisters to her through the years. They were the Golden Girls whom she shared many good memories. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Chaplain Ann Dalton officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103, or the American Cancer Society at 4-A Oak Branch Drive Greensboro, NC 27407.
