Kernersville – Sylvia Lynn Wheat Forrest, 68, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. She was born in Lexington, MS on December 14, 1952, to the late Clarence and Catherine Pitchford Wheat. Sylvia graduated Mississippi Valley State University in 1974 with a B.S. in Mathematics. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Sylvia married Randy Forrest June 2, 1972. Their union of 40 years produced three Sons. She retired from a career in Accounting from La-Z-boy in 2012.
Sylvia was a mother before anything else and her Sons and Grandchildren were first in her life. Sylvia continued with her love of parenting after her children were grown. She expressed this with her grandchildren, love and laughter filled her home until her final days.
Sylvia was a faithful and supportive member of Goler Memorial A.M.E Zion Church of Winston Salem. Sylvia had an affinity for vibrant and colorful flowers and could make anything grow. Sylvia was an avid believer in cleanliness is close to godliness and her home reflected this inside and out. The heavenly spirit of love and happiness washed over any soul who entered it. Sylvia enjoyed immediate family gatherings and loved to host major holidays at her home. Sylvia was passionate about literature, flowers, cooking, and her spirituality. She was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis L. Wheat and Willie A. Wheat.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Randy Forrest, II, Kerrick Jermaine Forrest, and Anthony Tyrell Forrest; her seven grandchildren, Angel Hines, Adrienne Forrest, Brennan Forrest, Janiyah Barrino, Kendra Forrest, Amari Forrest, and Avery Forrest; and six siblings, James Henry Hinton (wife, Gloria) of Los Angeles, CA, Betty Wheat Robinson of Indianapolis, IN, Barbara Wheat Shavers (husband, Charles) of Toledo, OH, Brenda Wheat Renfroe, Indianapolis, IN, Sherrill Wheat Whitfield (husband, Joe) of Clinton, MS, and Linda Wheat Watkins of Jackson, MS.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Dr. George C. Banks officiating. A visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM, Monday, August 30, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
