Sybil A. Setzer

Sybil Wray Allran Setzer, 80, of Salemtowne, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 25 at 11 am at Smith Saal at Salemtowne, a retirement community in Winston-Salem, with the Reverend Merlin Batt officiating. Sybil was born August 17, 1928, to Henry Winfield and Ethel Ona Davis Allran of Cherryville, North Carolina. A graduate of Cherryville High School, Sybil was a most dedicated employee of Carolina Freight Carriers, Incorporated, beginning work there as a part-time, temporary employee. Over time, she worked her way to Executive Administrative Assistant to the company president. Sybil married Charles Setzer of Gastonia, North Carolina, on December 30, 1948. She moved her family across the country several times to support Charles in his career in the United States Marine Corps. Across all moves and every region that she ever lived- and they were many - she always created a sense of home for husband and, especially, her children. Sybil is survived by her sister Margaret Harrelson of Cherryville, by husband Charles, by their three children, Charles W. Setzer, Jr., of San Diego, California, Cynthia Lynn Setzer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and by James Winfield Setzer of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, and by two grandchildren, Zachary James Setzer and Rachel Erin Setzer, both of Mooresville, North Carolina. Tammy Setzer and Randall Washington, spouses of Sybil's children, were also proud to call her Mom. Flowers can be sent to Salemtowne or memorial contributions can be made to the Salemtowne Endowment Fund at Salemtowne, Winston-Salem, N.C. Online condolences can be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
