Swann Burnett Boyer, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 surrounded by family at home. He was born on July 4, 1932 in Athens, TN to the late Swann Burnett Boyer, Sr. and Reba Bayless Boyer. He graduated from McMinn County High School . He attended the College of William and Mary in Virginia briefly, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served four years before being honorably discharged in 1955. Swann graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he received a degree in Industrial Management. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1958 where he went to work for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Winston-Salem Elks Lodge for 41 years, where he spent many afternoons playing cards. An avid Wake Forest football fan, Swann also enjoyed playing golf and surf fishing. He also loved to entertain his many friends and family by cooking his ""famous"" BBQ chicken. Swann was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Peggy; his son, Ken Bayless Boyer; his parents; and a sister, Ann Wilkerson. He is survived by his son, Dan Boyer and wife, Dawn; and his grandchildren, Katie, Bailey and Charlie, of Winston-Salem. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Hayworth Miller Chapel on Silas Creek Parkway with Pastor Tony Brown officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Reap More Than You Sow, P.O.
