Susie Mercer Loftin

Susie Mercer Loftin, 79, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Susie was born May 10, 1934 in Wilson County, NC to Charles Mae and Esther Britt Mercer. Susie retired from Jostens Publishing Company where she worked in the copy assembly department. Having a caring and generous nature, Susie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing, going on cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico, and taking trips to New York with friends from their dance group. Besides being a great cook, Susie also took great pleasure from the roses grown in the garden at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her half-brothers, one half-sister, three brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Floyd (Fill) Loftin of Winston-Salem; daughter Phyllis Loftin of Clemmons; son and daughter-in-law Warren and Cindy Loftin of Lewisville; granddaughter Adrienne and her husband Cal Overby of Hickory; two grandsons Zachary Loftin of Kernersville, and Nathaniel Loftin of Lewisville; and two great-granddaughters Abby and Laney Overby of Hickory; four sisters Myrtle Lamm, Ethel Murray, Francelyne Sharber, and Dorothy Suggs; two brothers John Mercer, and Joe Mercer; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon Saturday July 6, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Mike Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour following the service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family would like to thank Brighton Gardens of Winston-Salem, especially the Reminiscence Unit, and Hospice of Forsyth County for the exemplary care and compassion they provided for Susie.
