Susan Rushing Whittington

Mrs. Susan Rushing Whittington, 53, of King, NC, passed away on November 13, 2011. She was born in Forsyth County to Ernest ""Bud"" Wade Rushing Jr. and Sandra Walker Rushing, on September 7, 1958. A loving mother and grandmother, successful business woman, and disc golf champion, she had a thirst for knowledge, a love of history, and respect for nature. She served as the CEO of King Mechanical for two decades, in addition to other championships in disc golf, in 1989, she became the first ever women's World Amateur Disc Golf Champion. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at the beach, was a member of the audobon society and an avid bird watcher. She is preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Rushing; grandparents Paul Walker, Pauiline Dillon, Fannie ""Granny"" Rushing, and Ernest Rushing Sr. She is survived by her husband Keith Wayne Whittington; her daughters Nicole Rushing, Katie Friend and husband Jason, Stephanie Whittington, and Amanda Rego and husband Michael; her father Ernest Rushing Jr.; her brothers, Steve, Scott and Jody Rushing; her five grandchildren Kayla, Cade, Kaleb, Elizabeth, and Mason; her grandmother Lois Walker; father in-law and mother in-law Bruce and Ina Whittington; and close friends John and Leslie Porter. Funeral services for Susan will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland City Cemetery in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 this evening Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
