Susan Elizabeth Dougan Dyer, 73, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
Susan was born on November 12, 1948 in Marietta, OH to George Dougan and Mary Wilson Dougan. She was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Marietta Senior High School in 1966.
After high school, Susan eventually moved to Atlanta and worked at the Atlanta Transportation Department. While at the transportation department, Susan met Dorsey Dyer. They married on August 4, 1974.
In 1976, Dorsey and Susan moved to Winston-Salem, NC. Dorsey and Susan welcomed their daughter Elizabeth Lee in 1979. Susan spent the next few years raising Elizabeth, but as Elizabeth grew older Susan began to work outside the home, hanging wallpaper and helping people with interior design ideas. This grew into a career as Susan created her own company, Design Visions. For many years, Susan provided interior design services and space planning needs for many in the Winston-Salem area. Along the way she returned to school, earning a psychology degree at Salem College. Susan was actively involved in her church, including organizing several mission trips over the years. Susan was also an avid gardener and lover of birds. Her beautiful yards certainly reflected this throughout her life.
In 2004, Susan welcomed her son-in-law, Andrew Lupien, when he and Elizabeth were married in Portland, Maine. In 2010, Susan became a grandmother for the first time, welcoming Sarah Beth into the family. She welcomed her grandson, Silas Dorsey, in 2012. Susan was an avid baseball fan and it was a highlight for the entire family to watch the Winston-Salem Dash and the Demon Deacon baseball teams play over the years.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dorsey Dyer, as well as her brothers, Michael and Patrick Dougan.
Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth Lupien (Andrew) of South Portland, Maine; grandchildren, Sarah Beth Lupien and Silas Lupien; her sister Melanie (Stephen) Forti; two brothers, Casey Dougan (Missy) and Tim (Darla) Dougan; sister-in-law, Kyong Dougan; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Parkway United Church of Christ, with Rev. Craig Schaub officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Carter Center (https://www.cartercenter.org) or the Sierra Club (https://www.sierraclub.org).
