Susan "Sue" Schellenberger Atkins

Kernersville - Susan ""Sue"" Ann Schellenberger Atkins, 59, was finally freed, September 8, 2016, from the grasp of Huntington's Disease after 20 years, enabling her to once again enjoy skiing, biking, camping, skating and other heavenly outdoor activities. Sue was born July 27, 1957 in Detroit, MI to Carl and Joyce Walker Schellenberger. She put herself through college at Michigan State obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Travel & Tourism. After graduation, she worked as a tour guide in Miami, moving to Dallas in 1981 to begin working at American Airlines for over 13 years. Sue's love of travel took her to many places! She followed her husband in his career to Houston TX, Everett WA, The Woodlands TX and finally to Kernersville, where she took much joy in being a full time mom.

Sue was preceded in death by her father Carl Schellenberger.

Surviving are her husband, Hunter B. Atkins, of the home; a daughter, Amanda Marie Atkins of Asheville; her mother Joyce Schellenberger of Macomb, MI; her brother, Karl Schellenberger (Nancy) also of Macomb; her sister Arlene Samuel (Ray) of Redford, MI; nieces and nephews, Kourtney, Dayna, RJ, Smyttie and Gabe; a great nephew, Andrew; a great niece, Ryleigh - born just two hours prior to Sue's passing; loving in-laws, Anna Marie price (Zac) and Daniel Atkins (Betty); and special girlfriends from Michigan, ""The Ladies Auxiliary"", who loved her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Cash officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
