KERNERSVILLE - Sue Walker Turner, 79, went home to be with the Lord Sunday April 17, 2011 at 1:15pm at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Mildred Sue Walker on April 8, 1932 in Yadkin County to the late Otha Dwight Martin Walker and Hessie Jeanette Martin Walker. She graduated from West Yadkin High School in May 1951 and on June 8, 1951 she married Billy Wagoner Turner. For a time she worked at Hanes Knitting until her second son was born in September 1954. She worked at Gospel Light Baptist Church for 11 years. She later worked for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System in the Bakery and in the school cafeterias serving food; she retired there after ten years. The time between she raised three sons and a host of children who lovingly called her Mamma Sue. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and taught Sunday school until her health failed her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; a son Billy Wagoner Turner, Jr.; and three brothers, James Fred Walker, John Ray Walker and Roy Lee Walker.
She is survived by two sons Michael Wayne (Dorothy Frances) Turner of
Kernersville and Andy Wade (Angie) Turner of High Point and Billy Jr's Widow Lisa Turner of Kernersville; and eight grandchildren Michael W. (Jennifer) Turner Jr. of Kingsport, TN; Stephen W. Turner of Kernersville; Justin W. Turner and Tasha L. Turner of Kernersville; Chad (Brandi) Moore of Norfolk, VA; Evon Avorkliya of Greensboro; Bradley W. Turner and Matthew P. Turner of High Point; two great grandson's Micah and Trenton Turner of Kingsport, TN; two brothers Jack Donald Walker of Winston-Salem and Joseph Dwight Walker of Yadkinville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and everyone who ever called her Momma Sue.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11am on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown with Dr. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Frank Shumate officiating.
Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 9pm Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
The family requests that memorials be made to Gospel Light Baptist Church, PO Box 38, Walkertown, NC 27051.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Richard and Julia Montgomery for all the support and care that was given to Momma Sue.
