Sue Carol Walker Joyce

Mrs. Sue Carol Walker Joyce, 69, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 14, 1940 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late James Andrew Walker and Lorene Burton Walker. Mrs. Joyce was a Christian woman who will be remembered for her unwavering morals, her love for her family and caring friends. She lovingly dedicated her life to nurturing and raising her family. Mrs. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Russell Walker and an infant sister, Betty Walker. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dwayne Walker and one sister, Bernice Wilson. Mrs. Joyce is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, James E. Joyce Sr. of the home; five children, Melinda Joyce Hill (Gary) of King, Patty Joyce Sonovick (Roy) of Burlington, James E. Joyce Jr. (April) of Siloam, Jennifer Joyce Shore (Scott) of Pinnacle, and Sergeant Jason A. Joyce (Darla) of Brandon Suffold England, Lakenheath AFB; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, three brothers, Charles Walker of Pecos, TX, Noel Walker of Westminster, CA, and Harold Walker of Wilmington, OH; one sister, Lois Nelson (Bud) of Pecos, TX; also numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastor Carl Goodman officiating and son-in-law, Roy Sonovick to give the eulogy. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, December 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to a charity of their choice.
