Mrs. Sue Ellin Heffner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, September 16, 2008. She was born September 13, 1947 in Bristol, Pennsylvania to Delbert Roy and Katherine Wade. Sue Ellin spent many years in Liberia, West Africa due to her husband's work with Caterpillar Tractor. She continued to be an advocate after her return to the states for those who suffered from dire poverty in this country. Upon returning to the states, she and her family resided in Advance and she began work on a nursing degree. Sue Ellin obtained her RN degree at Forsyth Technical College. She worked at Charter Behavioral Services, Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro and finished her nursing career at Baptist Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father. Surviving is her husband of 37 years, James Joseph Heffner; two daughters, Rachel Ellin Heffner and Rebecca Sue Heffner of Chicago; a son, James Michael Heffner of Mt. Airy; grandson, Joshua Sebastian Heffner and three sisters, Sherry Sturkey, Melissa Butterworth and Holly Helmuth. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20 at Parkway Presbyterian Church on Yorkshire Rd., off Silas Creek Parkway, with Rev. Daniel Wilkers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Big Brother, Big Sister Organization, 107 Westdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Sue Ellin was associated with this organization for 10 years. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the family. Online condolences may be made through www.hayworth-miller.com.
