Lettie Sue Waddell Duncan, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was 87 years old. During her bout with cancer, Sue showed us how to live with grace and great faith and courage. Sue was born September 8, 1936, in Alleghany County to the late Welter and Elsie Kirby Waddell. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1954 and then attended UNCG. Sue graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte. Sue had a successful career in banking. She worked in Greensboro, North Wilkesboro and retired from Wells Fargo in Charlotte. Sue loved spending time with her family and friends. Sue was passionate about helping others. Sue attended Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem and Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius prior to her move to Winston. Over the years, Sue worked with a quilting group that made quilts for the homeless, participated in fundraising activities for a children’s home, worked in soup kitchens, and drove for Meals on Wheels. Sue loved others and she loved to help those in need. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Fred Hill. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Duncan of Charlotte; sister, Nellie Lee Waddell Hill of Dobson; two nieces, Nancy Hill of Dobson, and Cynthia Hensley (Roger) of Elkin; great-nephew, Daniel Hensley of Roaring River; great-niece, Christina Hensley of Atlanta; and two great-great nieces, Lizzy, and Ayla Hensley of Roaring River. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Dr. Roger Hensley and Pastor Randy Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service. A private graveside service will be held at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson. Sue’s family is grateful for her many faithful and loving friends and their compassionate care and presence as she faced this final battle. Many thanks also to Sue’s private caregivers and the staff at Trellis Supportive Care and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
