Steven Matthew Ferguson

Mr. Steven Matthew Ferguson, 83, passed away, at his home surrounded by his loving family, January 21, 2015. He was born in Guilford County on July 1, 1931 the son of the late Rev. Steven Thomas Ferguson and Mary Magdalene Glidewell Ferguson. Matthew was an active and faithful member of Spirit and Truth Worship Center in Winston-Salem and was a well known Evangelist at many area rest homes. He loved to sing and was a member of the Swordsmen Quartet for 24 years. Matthew worked as a cloth cutter in the furniture industry for over 40 years and retired as a salesman from Elkes Carpet in High Point. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he traveled throughout Europe singing with the 43rd Division Band APO. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a half- brother, Daniel Shives. He is survived by his wife; Beatrice Ferguson of the home, four daughters; Janice F. Elkes (Robert Jr.) of Thomasville, Teresa F. Elkes (Marty Sr.) of Archdale, Sandra Ashburn (Terry) of Rural Hall and Sherry Richardson (Richard) of Walnut Cove, 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a brother; Garland Thomas Ferguson (Dorothy) of Thomasville. Funeral services with military rites will be conducted 12:00 noon Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Travis Moses and Bishop Bob Williams officiating. Mr. Ferguson will be buried in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
