Stella Mae Jones Smith

Stella Mae Jones Smith, 96, was called to heaven on February 2 by her Lord and Savior at her home in Clemmons, after a long journey here on earth. She was born April 13, 1916 in Forsyth County. She was the daughter of the late Edward Elisha Jones and Elizabeth Shoaf Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duel T. Smith; one son, Robert Gray Smith; two grandsons, Bobby and Eddie Smith; one granddaughter, Debra Smith; two sisters, Pearl Smith and Hattie Ledford and four brothers Paul, Ernest, Cyrus and John Jones. Those left to honor and cherish Stella's legacy of courage and kindness are: three daughters, Martha Koontz (Jerry), Barbara Mumford (Ervin), and Linda Bowman; four sons, D.T., Richard (Elizabeth), Otis (Janice), and Jerry; twenty-eight grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory a dear sister-in-law Mabel Culler. Stella loved her work at Medical Park Hospital and the Blumenthal Jewish Home. She loved being a caregiver and often spoke fondly about her patients. Outside of work she enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping, quilting and sewing. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her goal in life was to share the gospel with everyone she met. Her greatest loves in life were her family and her faith. She spent many hours studying the Bible and on her knees praying. Stella would have us to remember one thing: know Jesus and live, walk, trust and rest in Him. And that she did for 96 wonderful years. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance. The celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Clemmons. Burial will follow immediately in the Immanuel Baptist Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com. The family would like to thank the Hospice Staff for their weekly visits.
