Stella Hutchings

Belews Creek – Stella Catherine Preston Hutchings departed for her Heavenly home on Thursday, March 10, 2022,  from Village Care of King. Stella was born on October 11, 1920, in Belews Creek, NC where she lived most of her life. The 2nd child of seven born to Rachel Richardson Preston and James Ellington Preston. A graduate of Walkertown High School. She was married to Walter Roy Hutchings, Sr. for 59+ years before his passing in 1998. They enjoyed farming and traveling with the RV clubs where Stella was the Chaplin. Lifetime and oldest member of Goodwill Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Hutchings, Sr.; grandson, Wayne Albert Hutchings, Jr.; two sisters, Eva Baker, and Treva Nelson; three brothers, Cebron, Carlos, and James Preston.

Survived by her three devoted children, Wayne Hutchings, Sr. (Sylvia) of Belews Creek, Linda Ivey (Eutice) of Kernersville, Walter Hutchings, Jr. (Vicki) of Kernersville; her older sister, Hazel Hutchins of Kernersville; six grandchildren, David Hutchings (Kim), Dawn Ivey Motsinger (Chris), E. Harold Ivey, Jr. (Amy), Karen Ivey Hatley (Jason), Walter Hutchings, III (Danielle), and Michelle Sheets (Normand); ten great grandchildren, Samantha Hutchings (Alex), Jessie Hutchings, Dalton Hutchings, Tiffany Covington (Thomas), Lauren Sheets, Garrett Motsinger, Kendall Motsinger Bodford (Zack), Cameron Motsinger, Abigail and Charlie Hatley; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Jason Hatley and Rev. Greg Mullis officiating. Entombment to follow at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goodwill Baptist Church, 3110 Piney Grove Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284 or Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361.
