Stella Maultsby Fisher passed away Friday afternoon August 1, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Winston-Salem. She was born on November 22, 1927 in Huntington West Virginia. She was 80 years 8 months and 10 days old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Henry and Mary Iva Watts Maultsby, a brother Thomas Henry Maultsby Jr. and her husband of 53 years, Carl Chester Fisher. Surviving her are daughters Patricia Ann and husband Calvin Vestal and Carol Victoria and husband Joseph Reed Wilson; grandsons Parrish Vestal and Virgil Fisher Wilson; and great-grandson Zackary Vestal. Shortly after birth her parents moved to Fayetteville, her father's home. She attended Fayetteville Senior High School and Worth Business School. Stella was a bookkeeper for many of the retail clothing stores in the downtown area. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville, and a member of the Women of the Church where she served as the Circle Chairperson. She was an elder at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church in Hope Mills, NC. In 1992 she joined the Mocksville Women's Club and participated in many of the club's activities and services. She presided as President of the Mocksville Women's club from 1996-1998. She won first place in the NCFWA Arts festival for one of her beautiful handmade quilts. Quilting was her favorite way of expressing her artistic abilities. Stella could also be found at least one day a week at the Mocksville Library where she volunteered in the History Room. Stella will be missed by everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for a dry wit, a quick mind and for being a constant source of stimulating conversation on any subject. Her family will forever miss her love and devotion to them. We hope that she is wrapped in God's loving peace and knows that we hold her close to our hearts. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on August 11, 2008 at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville with Paul Seelman officiating.
