Stella Grant Cann

Mrs. Stella Grant Cann, 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Cann was born on December 24, 1918 in Iredell County, NC to the late Earlie and Attie Reid Grant. Stella was a long-time member of Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. She retired after 27 years of service from Western Electric where she worked as a Technical Editor. Mrs. Cann volunteered with the Downtown Church Center, Meals on Wheels. Stella opened her home up to the families of patients who were receiving treatment at Forsyth Medical Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center so they would have a place to stay if they were from cities outside of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Cann was preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, James Thomas Cann; a son, Lynn Thomas Cann; five brothers and sisters, Selma Johnson (her twin sister), James Grant, Sadie Lowe, Irene Holder, and Violet Brady. Mrs. Cann is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Lightsey (Oliver) of Winston-Salem and Judy Seivers (Jerry) of Winston-Salem; a daughter-in-law, Cathey Cann of Clemmons, NC; six grandchildren, Julie Hudspeth (David) of Winston-Salem, John Seivers (Cathy) of Winston-Salem, Thomas Cary Cann (Roxane) of Mt. Airy, NC, Grant Cann of Lewisville, NC, Elizabeth Lesage (Jon) of Winston-Salem, and Micha Robinson of Clemmons, NC; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Brianna Seivers, and Lily and Vincent Puckett-Cann; and a special friend of the family, Anthony Jenkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Winston-Salem Friends Meeting with Minister Philip Raines and Forsyth Medical Center Chaplain Randy Hillman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Salem Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family requests that memorials be sent to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, 3151 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
