Stan Overton

MOORESVILLE Mr. Edward Stanley ""Stan"" Overton, 42, passed away unexpectedly August 14, 2010 in Sturgis, South Dakota. Stan was born in Forsyth County on November 3, 1967 to Robert Lee Overton and Sara Ogburn Overton. He currently served as the general manager of Westport Golf Club in Denver, NC and had previously been the superintendent of Birkdale Golf Course, Pinehurst and Forsyth Country Club. Stan loved his family, his golf courses, his Harleys, his dogs and wrestling. During his life he was blessed to have never met a stranger and will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. Stan was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Overton and his grandparents, Emmet ""Dick"" and Elizabeth Ogburn and Jim and Ethel Overton. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kate Overton of the home, his daughter, Mattie Overton of the home, his parents, Robert and Sara Overton of Rural Hall, his brother, Keith Overton and wife Kim of Rural Hall and two nephews, Drew and Mitch Overton. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Thursday evening, August 19, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall or at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Westport Golf Club in Denver, NC. A celebration of Stan's life will be held at a later date.
