Mr. Solomon Bernard Cohen, 99, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born December 28, 1909 in New York City to Charles Louis and Rebecca Carlin Cohen. He retired after 44 years as an electroplater at the Electromotive Manufacturing Co. in Willimantic, CT. Prior to that, he had been a taxi driver in New York City, and had repaired ticker tape machines for Western Union. Mr. Cohen was an enthusiastic amateur radio operator and assisted overseas service personnel in contacting their families. In his younger days, he was a trophy winning target archer. After retirement to Winston-Salem, he helped pick up newly available corneas for the Lion's Club transplant program. Ben and Pearl were also long-term members of Miller Park Dance Club. He was a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Pearl Elizabeth Clayton Cohen; a brother, Martin Cohen; and two sisters, Zelda Cohen Martin and Miriam Cohen Moscowitz. Surviving is one son, Charles L. Cohen and wife Jane of St. Paul, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Barbara Cohen of Los Angeles, CA, and Miriam Burch and husband Brian of Denver, CO; a grandson, Joshua Cohen and wife Karen Gayle of New York City; two great granddaughters, Sidney and Sigourney Burch of Denver, CO; nieces, Karen Moscowitz Laude and husband Mike, Donna Sides Long of Winston-Salem; nephews, Louis Moscowitz and wife Joanne of Tega Cay, SC and D.C. ""Boone"" Sides and family of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Lois Dorsett and her extended family of Winston-Salem. A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
