Smiley Funderburk

Summerfield - Mr. Smiley Allen Funderburk, 69, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2019 at his home. He was born December 30, 1949 in Union County to the late William Albert Funderburk and Evelyn Baucom Funderburk. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Funderburk Stanfield and two brothers, William Albert Funderburk and Cullie Funderburk. He was a devout Christian who dearly loved the Lord and an active member of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church. Mr. Funderburk was president of Empire Acceptance Mortgage Company for 40 years. He cherished his family and his church. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father.

Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Brenda Funderburk; three children, Jennifer Funderburk, Lindsay Funderburk and Ryan Funderburk; a sister, Rebecca Funderburk, and his mother-in-law, Patricia Madden.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Moore, Rev. Karen Kurtz, Rev. Susan Mitchell, and Rev. Christi Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center.

The family would to thank Dr. Tony D’Amico, Dr. Hope Uronis, and the team with Duke Cancer Center for their wonderful care, Sam King with Hospice of Greensboro for his kindness and compassion, and many dear and supportive family members and friends.
