Sidney Calvin Teague

Sidney Calvin Teague, 94, of Winston-Salem died on Wednesday October 8, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Winston-Salem on July 9, 1920 to Della Belle Crater and Sidney Moses Teague. After attending Gray High School, he worked as an electrician for several years before joining the US Navy in December, 1941. He served for four years as Electrician's Mate First Class aboard the Destroyer Escort USS Stern (DE 187), making several Atlantic and Pacific Ocean crossings. He was present at many major naval events of the War, including multiple battles in the South Pacific. After the War ended, he returned to Winston-Salem and resumed work as an electrician. He was foreman of the electrical department for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for thirty-five years before retiring in 1982. He was a faithful member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church for fifty-nine years, serving in many leadership roles, including Trustee and Usher. He and his wife, Margie, served Lovefeast together for thirty years.
Mr. Teague and Margie Mae Sides, also of Winston-Salem, married on October 5, 1946. In addition to Mrs. Teague, he is survived by his son, Sidney Calvin Teague II and his wife, Camilla Wilcox; his daughter, Susan Teague Mitchell and her husband, David Mitchell; six grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and their spouses; seventeen great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. His four siblings, James, Norma, Dora Lee, and George Teague, predeceased him.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday October 11, 2014 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, with burial in God's Acre at New Philadelphia. The family will greet friends at a reception in the Church Fellowship Hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
